I know I am not the only one whose heart and imagination was captured by the story, The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett. The story is a lovely tale about the wonders of spring, friendship and the evolution of the human spirit.
This inspired me to do many journal pages which became a workshop!

On Sunday April 28th, at my Seattle, WA studio, we'll be:
Journaling In The Secret Garden
No art experience required. Bring a journal to work in. All other supplies provided.
The happy anticipation of sunshine drenched days over a bower of flowers is enough to send any Pacific Northwesterner into giddy delight. While we await the sun's arrival come celebrate this inspiring subject in your art journal. What makes you most excited in Spring? The bold tulips, delicate cherry blossoms, nest building fervor of the feathered ones, or the definite sense that things are stirring after winter’s subdued palette?
We will cover a variety of journaling techniques incorporating texture, lettering, layering and color onto our pages. We will also mix together juicy washes of acrylic paint with layered collage (supplied flower photos, wallpaper, tissue paper, and burlap). You will be free to use the techniques to express your own ideas of what spring means to you and to use them for exploring and expressing your own beautiful ideas and expressions.
Just as Spring is a time of new growth in nature-it can be a time of new growth in ourselves too! Whether you would like to focus on gardens & flowers or on the metaphor of self growth is up to you. I will provide exercises which each person can tailor to their own desire. If you would like to learn how to build pages full of juicy color, and layers blended with imagery, texture and words-come join in the fun!

And then the following week....

I've been invited back to teach again at Letters of Joy!- May 3rd-4th in Edmonds, WA
There will be an amazing calligrapher speaking Friday evening. Saturday you get to choose from a list of classes and take three, 2 hour long workshops in lettering, book binding, mixed media and watercolor. In my class we will be making a Watercolor Textures Sampler.
You will learn wonderful techniques for creating textures with watercolor. You can use these in your paintings, as backgrounds for journal writing, borders or bookmarkers. At the end we will make this into a sampler so you'll have a great reference tool to use next time you are looking for a little watercolor pizaz!
