There are times like this past week, when magic happens. You wake up and find your whole world has been transformed into a wonderland of softness. Things that are normally sharp and clear have turned into gentle mysteries awaiting discovery.
Normally you can see a beautiful, deep bluish-greenish lake on the right side of this.
Here you can see it softly hugging the land.
So I feel that I should warn you... because although it has been soft and gray outside... inside the colors are vibrant, warm, a vivid opposing response. Light, is what we in the Pacific Northwest of the U.S., crave at this time of year. And so when I'm making art, I find myself reaching for the kinds of colors I associate with Mexico, India, Thailand... light, warmth and alive with sheer exuberance.
One such landing place has been my new little journal. In my last post I shared the below spread with you. But you might notice that something has changed. I had thought I was done, but then while listening to my football team run up and down the field, I discovered, I wasn't done.
And now it looks like this:
A little mica just seemed the thing for this little window...
And then we turn the page and a whole ocean beach appeared... Using watercolor, paper collage, leather, mica flakes, and a cancelled stamp...
And then... well you turn the page and find even MORE color! The hibiscus flower is watercolor and the rest of the page is acrylic.
So while outside it looks like this.
12"x 12" Oil on Gesso Panel. It is done for now... but I know myself better than to declare it completely, absolutely done...
Whatever the world looks like outside, we can always change it inside! : )
Have a wonderful week!
