2012 is flying in with glee and to celebrate I wanted a new journal to go with my new practice of journaling everyday. I wanted to have a journal made with 140lb watercolor paper so I could use whatever medium my heart desired. I took apart an old composition book, sanded the front & edges, and stained the inside with distress stamp ink pads. I measured the paper and tore it using a deckle edge ruler. Then I chose the ribbons I wanted for the spine, created a custom hole template, stabbed the signatures, and sewed it up. Then I began the fun process of decorating the cover. I usually just start gluing things down, but this time I played with lots of arrangements first. To help me remember all the versions, I took photos of each one so I could compare them side by side on my comptuer. I thought you might enjoy seeing all the "versions" it went through!
So which one did I end up doing?
This one. The brass button on the right will become a magnetic closure. But because I want my journal to be ultra easy to use....
I cut off the top of the pocket so that when the book is open, the diamond button on the pocket flap won't be there to make my drawing surface unstable. When the journal is finished, I will attached the pocket flap back on! So Yes, you CAN have your cake and eat it too!
As my journal has been progressing, I've also enjoyed watching my bulbs growing. New starts, new roots, new possibilities! How exciting!
Have a wonderful day and Happy New Year to You!
