Hi! I'm busy getting ready for this weekend's classes, but wanted to visit with you for a bit. Next to me is my hot cup of tea. Tonight it is supposed to get down to 18 degrees! This is NOT normal for here. This is 20 degrees colder than average for this time of year. To my readers from the midwest and northeast-don't worry, I'm not expecting any sympathy! : ) The cats and I are snuggled up in the studio keeping warm. I'm creating, they're napping. To each their own expertise!
This is the beginning of a journal cover. I started with layering collage images and textures that spoke to me. Then I added more texture with acrylic paint, hiding some things and emphasizing others.

This is how it looks after I added even more paint and collage. Next I added details with markers. I like the contrast between the large collage shapes, swooshy paint marks, and fine pen lines.
The close-ups here give you a better idea of the multiple layers. The key is to add each new layer, while leaving some of the bottom layers visible.
Here is Sophie cat, caught in the act of "helping" as she plays with collage scraps unwittingly left by me for her to rearrange.
"Are you telling tales about me again? I told you that this area needed resorting! I'm just helping you out!"
Chloe demonstrates that the fabric bin can hold more than fabric!
And of course, she is so cute that when I need fabric, I just gently tug it out from underneath her. : ) What would we do without our studio companions??
Have a delightful day! Make time for art soon!
