This Friday, March 5th, 3 to 6 pm I will be doing a free demo at Daniel Smith, a wonderful art supply store in Washington State. You are all invited to come! There are chairs for you to sit in while you're watching. They also have complimentary coffee, tea and water. The demo is at their Seattle location. Here are driving directions.
The demo is Mixed Media: The Joy of Journaling. I am demonstrating how to make your own journal from their wonderfully easy book making kit. I will also show a variety of mixed media techniques you can do to decorate the cover and use in your journal. If you have pondered taking a class with me-this is also a chance for you to come meet me and see if you like my teaching style.
One of the reasons I like Daniel Smith so much (other than it is in Seattle!) is that the staff are very knowledgeable about their products. AND...They manufacture their own line of watercolor, acrylic and oil paints right here in Seattle. With so many things being made overseas these days, I really admire that. I can vouch for the high quality, pigment load, rich color, and consistency of their paints. I have and use their watercolor, acrylic and oil paint in my work and haven't been disappointed. And no, they aren't paying me to say all of this. : )
They often have FREE art demos. Here is the link to their schedule. They also have an art blog where you can learn about art.
Here is the book kit. It comes in several sizes. It includes paper, and boards for the covers and spine. The paper is unique in that is has a waffle texture and is very absorbent. I'll be showing what techniques and media work best with it.
Daniel Smith also sells this very cool package of decorative papers. You get twice as much as is shown here because the back of the package has the same amount of paper as the front. I'll be using these in the demo too.
And for those of you in my Artfest class, Heartscapes-I'm bringing this paper along with other goodies, for you to use in your art. I'm really excited-that is going to be such a fun class.
These are some of the papers I've chosen to use in the sample journal I'm making for the demo. Aren't they yummy? I'm so glad that humans see things in color and not just shades of gray!
I will try to post photos of the journal when I've finished making it, so those of you who can't come to the demo will get to see it.
Happy 1st of March!
